Angel Castillo Talavera

Director of the Eduardo Torroja Institute

Dr. Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid who works as a CSIC Senior Scientist at the Instituto de Ciencias de la Construcción Eduardo Torroja. He is currently Director of the Eduardo Torroja Institute and was Vice Scientific Director of the IETcc-CSIC (2014-2018). He was head of the PREHFER research group (Prestational Development of Concretes, Structural Reliability and Risk Analysis) in the Department of Safety and Durability of Structures. 

He has participated in more than 21 national R&D projects (National Plan, Profit, Innpacto, Ministry of Public Works, Singular and Strategic Scientific and Technological Projects, Community of Madrid. It has also participated in 6 international R&D projects (within the LIFE+ FP7, CYTED, FP6 and Spanish-Austrian Integrated Action programmes). He has also participated in nearly 60 research contracts of special relevance with companies (Panama Canal, ENRESA, Pacadar, Ministry of Public Works, Ascó-Vandellós Nuclear Association, Dragados, Andece, Hipódromo de la Zarzuela, UTE Sacyr). 

He is the author of more than 45 publications (SCI articles, articles and book chapters) and more than 70 scientific-technical documents of restricted use, having presented more than 60 contributions to both national and international congresses. He has supervised 2 Doctoral Theses. 

He was director of the Monographs series of the IETcc-CSIC and is a member of the editorial board of the indexed journal: Informes de la Construcción del CSIC and of the journal Hormigón y Acero de ACHE. Representative of the IETcc-CSIC in the Permanent Commission of Concrete of the Ministry of Public Works and representative of the IETcc-CSIC in the Assembly, Permanent Commission and Delegated Commission of the PTEC. 

He is also a representative of the IETcc in the plenary of the AENOR CTN 83, Concrete and mortars. CSIC Coordinator of international doctorate course at the University of Buenos Aires-FORMAVANZ (FGCSIC) Sustainable Construction in 2017 He has been director of a subject in a postgraduate Master’s degree for two years on Special Concretes. Also, during 2013, 2014 and 2015 he co-directed the course Sustainable Construction within the PIFTE programme of the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and in 2013 he was director of an International course on Sustainable Concretes at UPSE-Ecuador.
