Inaugural exhibition debate with presentations by Austrian and Spanish guest architects in the context of social housing.
Vienna plays a pioneering role in the global debate on new strategies and implementation of affordable housing models and cutting-edge urban developments. Thanks to its innovative ideas, especially in the field of social housing, the city of Vienna has long played a pioneering role in the global debate on new strategies for the design and implementation of cutting-edge housing models and urban developments.
Based on urban and social aspects, not only have projects of exceptional quality been realised throughout the city, but also entire neighbourhoods have been revitalised or new ones created. These concepts, whose historical roots go back to “Red Vienna”, represent dynamic opportunities to improve the quality of life in the contemporary metropolis by creating exemplary living environments.
The event (lectures and opening discussion) aims to raise awareness and discuss the Viennese model of social housing, as well as to foster exchange and mutual learning on sustainable and innovative strategies for affordable housing in urban environments. The lecture and discussion, conducted in English, will be followed by the opening of the exhibition.
On the occasion of the exhibition opening, the architect Katharina Bayer from the Austrian studio einszueins Architektur, specialised in social participative housing and the architect and professor Carmen Espegel Alonso, director of the research group of collective housing (ETSAM), will give an inaugural talk on Thursday 5 May at 6:30 pm, followed by an open debate with the speakers. The event aims to both introduce and discuss the Vienna model, as well as to foster exchange and mutual learning on sustainable and innovative strategies towards affordable housing in urban environments. The conference will be held in English and followed by the opening of the exhibition.
