Born in 1956 in Milan, Italy, Stefano Boeri is an architect who graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan (1980) and 9 years later received a PhD from the University Institute of Architects of Venice.
Boeri has a great interest in everything related to the environment and that is why he founded Multiplicity, an agency dedicated to the investigation of the physical environment, formed by several architects, geographers, artists, urban planners, photographers, sociologists, economists, filmmakers, among others where he creates intervention strategies and study of the urban world. He is also the owner of theTomorrow platform where he promotes the exchange of ideas about different cultures, discussing topics such as art, migration, education and creativity. Among the authors involved are: Emiliano Battista, Peter Eisenman, Rem Koolhaas, Okwui Enwezor, Camille Henrot, Martin Schulz, Adran Piper, Tzuchein Tho and many more. This project has been part of the Venice Biennial of Architecture (2014) and the Venice Art Biennial (2015).
In 1998 he founded his first studio Boeri Studio but it was in 2008 that he transformed his company to Stefano Boeri Architetti (SBA), based in Milan, with offices in Shanghai and Tirana. Following Boeri’s ideals, the studio is dedicated to both research and practice in architecture and urban planning. One of its most important projects is the well-known Vertical Forest, completed in 2014 in Milan. It is a new sustainable residential model with two 20-storey towers housing more than 700 trees. This project has won major awards such as the High Rise Building sponsored by the Frankfurt Museum of Architecture in 2014 and the CTBUH Award in 2015 for Best Tall Building.
