Thanks to its innovative ideas, especially in the field of social housing, the city of Vienna has long played a pioneering role in the global debate on new strategies for the design and implementation of cutting-edge housing models and urban developments.

Based on urban and social aspects, not only have projects of exceptional quality been realised throughout the city, but also entire neighbourhoods have been revitalised or new ones created. These concepts, whose historical roots go back to “Red Vienna”, represent dynamic opportunities to improve the quality of life in the contemporary metropolis by creating exemplary living environments.

The Vienna Model: Housing for the City of the 21st Century takes a look at sixty landmark projects from the last 100 years. It also pays special attention to the art in public space that has accompanied municipally owned housing since the First Republic.
