Carlos Sallé Alonso

International expert on energy transition and climate change

Born in David (Panama), son of Spanish parents. Industrial Engineer (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales-Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and Electrical Engineer by the ICAI of the Universidad Pontifica de Comillas.  

He worked at Red Eléctrica de España and the Compañía Operadora del Mercado Eléctrico and was Director of Electrical Energy at the energy regulator, the National Energy Commission (CNE).  

He was also Associate Director of the Energy Area of the consulting firm NERA. Between 2001 and 2014 he was Director of Regulation of the Iberdrola Group, and between 2015 and the end of 2020 he was Director of Energy Policies and Climate Change of the Group, reporting directly to the Chairman, working on the Group’s strategy and positioning on climate change at international level, especially at the UN, at the COPs….  

He has also been chairman of the Energy Commission of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and member of the Business Advisory Board of the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) centre of UNECE (United Nations).  

He was one of the founders of the NGO Energy Without Borders and is currently a volunteer there. He is also a volunteer with UNHCR. He currently acts as an independent expert on energy regulation and transition.
