Safe Housing and Resilient Communities

A model of affordable, sustainable, and green housing development that is inclusive, participatory, futuristic and replicable. The model elaborates a participatory rural housing development process that integrates community needs and aspirations with bioclimatic and resilient designs for affordable, thermally comfortable, safe, earthquake-resilient houses.

The approach addresses multiple dimensions of resilience -physical, social and ecosystem. The program developed an assessment methodology and rapid diagnostic tool to identify structural vulnerabilities and inform culturally and environmentally sensitive designs and construction technologies. The program includes awareness raising, skills training, and capacity building as well as access finance and financial planning to facilitate uptake.
