Well-managed social housing providers can accumulate their own equity to invest in further social housing provision.

This project is an open negotiation between the different parties involved in the development of the city.

The site was a former iron mine, with a topography that had slopes of up to 50 meters, surrounded by a disorganized and degraded residential outskirts to the north and by the channelled Nervión River and the Miraflores peninsula and Miribilla to the south. 

The CiBoGa Terrain. The aim of this Europan implementation process was to develop the urban principles for a mixed-use regeneration project on the CiBoGa terrain, a 14 ha post-industrial site on the edge of the Groningen city centre.

The ‘Super-Shell’ houses system provides the user maximum level of freedom to personalize his house. The house is sold completely empty, offering only the structure and the facades, without any installations or rooms inside. Three strategically holes located in the floors allow the user to choose the position of the installations within the house after bying it. 

This project is a small city built for people of all age groups, with a complete repertoire of different functions. It includes at the same time social housing for families, assisted living apartments, a day-care centre, a youth club, a multifunctional hall, a supermarket…

This implementation in a bad reputation district of Marseille is the result of a long participative process between the inhabitants, the social landlords, Marseille Rénovation Urbaine, Marseille City Council and the 2 Europan runner-up teams.

Villa Sarrail The architect succeeded to keep in the development of her project the typological variety present in the original Europan project.

Oase 22 

The process has been a collective effort based on negotiation, in collaboration with the local architectural team, Mascha & Seethaler, management experts (Raum&Co), mobility (Traffix), landscaping (Land in Sicht), energy or sociology, as well as representatives of the neighborhood, the soil promoters (ARE) and the MA21 office of the Vienna City Council; all of them active participants in the design process.

Arenas Basabe Palacios was runner-up with their project Urban Software to E12 competition. Their project proposed a strategy prioritising the process over the final result, based on the generation of a flexible support able to react to the various scales and context conditions.

In this project the characteristic and qualities of the site and the memories of an industrial past –the river Zaan was the chief arterial route– have been take as the guiding principle in the design.
